Privacy policy

Last updated 18 October 2026

This policy explains what Uptime Dog stores about you, why, who else sees it and how long we keep it. Making Stuffs Ltd is the controller of your personal data. For data about your own customers (for example status page subscribers), you are the controller and we process it on your behalf.

What we collect

  • Your account: your email address, your name if you add one, your time zone, your password (stored only as a salted hash), when you created the account and last signed in, and whether you've confirmed your email address.
  • Teams: the teams you belong to, your role in each, and the phone number you add for SMS and phone call alerts.
  • Sign-in records: a hashed record of each signed-in browser (up to 30 days) and hashed team API keys. Sign-in codes, reset links and invites are stored hashed and expire.
  • IP addresses: used to limit sign-in, sign-up and subscription attempts, to stop abuse. We hold them in the server's memory while a limit applies and don't store them in our database.
  • What you set up: monitors and their targets and settings, check results, response times, server metrics sent by your agents, incidents and their updates, maintenance windows, status pages, alert channels (including webhook URLs and keys for services you connect), on-call schedules and escalation policies.
  • Status page subscribers: the email addresses people subscribe with, and whether they've confirmed.
  • Alert records: which alerts were sent, to which channel or person, and whether they were delivered.
  • Billing: your plan, and the SMS and call credits used each month.

Why we use it

  • To run your account and the service, which is our contract with you.
  • To keep the service secure and stop abuse, which is in our legitimate interests.

Cookies and storage on your device

We set one strictly necessary cookie, ub_session, which keeps you signed in for up to 30 days or until you sign out. Password-protected status pages set a cookie for that page once you've entered its password. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

The app keeps a few preferences, such as your light or dark theme, in your browser's local storage. None of this is sent to anyone else.

Analytics

Analytics isn't running on our public pages or in the app, so we don't count visits.

Who we share it with

  • Our hosting provider runs our servers, in the EU or UK.
  • Paddle processes payments as the merchant of record. It collects your payment details itself; we receive the customer and subscription details we need to run your plan, never card details.
  • Twilio delivers SMS and phone call alerts, so it receives the phone numbers you add and the text of those alerts.
  • Services you connect, such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Google Chat, Telegram, PagerDuty, Opsgenie or your own webhooks, receive the alerts you route to them, under their own terms.

We don't sell your data.

How long we keep it

Individual check results are kept for the number of days your plan includes, then deleted; daily summaries are kept for about 13 months so uptime history works. Everything else is kept until you delete it, your team or your account. Deleting your account removes your sign-ins and memberships, and deletes every team you're the only owner of, with all of its monitors, history, status pages, subscribers and settings, straight away.

We take backups regularly and keep each for up to 14 days, so anything you delete is gone from our backups within 14 days.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the data we hold about you;
  • correct it if it's wrong;
  • delete it: delete your account yourself from your profile, or email us;
  • take it with you: export reports from the app or use the API;
  • object to how we use it.

To use any of these, email uptimedog@makingstuffs.com. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
